Gillingham have lodged an appeal against Mark McCammon's red card in Saturday's defeat at Aldershot.
The striker was dismissed just 13 minutes into the 2-1 loss following a challenge on Aldershot goalkeeper Nikki Bull.
However, Gills boss Mark Stimson has defended McCammon and is hoping the red card will be rescinded by the Football Association.
"I know Mark McCammon, I don't think there was any intent, it's just not in his game," Stimson told the club's official website.
An FA disciplinary panel will consider Gillingham's appeal on Tuesday afternoon to determine whether McCammon's three-match ban will stand.
