Midfielder expected to sign for League Two side

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson remains hopeful of signing midfielder Kevin Maher. The former Southend man has been left out of the Gills' 21-man squad for a training camp in La Manga, but remains a top target for the League Two club. The 31-year-old spent two months on loan at Priestfield last season, impressing Stimson enough to persuade the coach to make a summer move for his services. Speaking to the club's official website, Stimson said: "We're still trying to sort out the situation with Kevin but unfortunately we've not been able to do that in time for the Spain trip. "Kevin will continue to work out with our fitness coach Danny Ellis this week and I hope that by next Monday we'll have an answer on his future. "We start our pre-season friendlies on Tuesday and it would be nice to have him on board for those games."
