Gillingham manager Mark Stimson wants Kevin Maher to make a decision on whether to join the club.
Maher is available on a free transfer after being released by Southend United and he spent a spell on loan at Gillingham last season.
Stimson is keen to sign the 31-year-old on a permanent basis, but is looking for an answer from the midfielder.
"We're going to try and put something to him in the next 48 hours and force his arm a little," Stimson told Kent Online.
"We want to know whether he's going to join or us not. It would be great if he did because he looks good in training.
"I know he's good enough to play in Division 1 and that's probably eating away in his mind.
"If we were a Division 1 side he would have signed by now. It's not right to have him training with us and me thinking he could be in my plans - I would like to know yes or no."
