Gillingham chairman Paul Scally admits he is powerless to prevent Jason Brown from leaving the club if that is his desire.
The League One outfit have already seen their top striker Darren Byfield quit the club for Millwall and Brown could be the next out of the exit door.
Gillingham have already offered the 24-year-old goalkeeper fresh terms but, out of contract, it seems he could seek pastures new as he is not enamoured with the current offer made to him.
Scally claims that the terms being put forward are far from derogatory but he could not offer any reassurances to Gills supporters who are fearing Brown could be on his way.
''It's still ongoing,'' Scally told the Kent Messenger.
''It's up to Jason Brown really, we're not holding our breath.
''It's not a derisory offer - it's substantial and it's his decision. In the meantime, the manager will be looking at other alternatives.''
