Swindon Town look to have failed in their bid to sign Gillingham striker Darius Henderson on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old ended a successful four-week loan spell with the League One side and Robins boss Andy King was keen to keep the former Reading hit-man.

The County Ground club have since failed with two bids for Henderson and it remains to be seen if Swindon will improve their offer in the future.

"We have made two offers so far, but it seems that the second one was still not enough to secure the player's services," said a Swindon club spokesperson.

"The manager obviously wants to sign the player, but it is now a financial issue between the two clubs."

Swindon, meanwhile, will travel to Championship side Leeds United for the Carling Cup second round tie this week without the services of Henderson.

In other news, former Swindon youth team coach Viv Busby has been appointed assistant manager at Conference club York City this week.
