Davis chasing striker loan deal

Crewe boss Steve Davis has confirmed he is trying to bring in a new striker on loan before Thursday evening's deadline.

The Railwaymen have dropped to the foot of League One following four games without a win, scoring just twice during that sequence. The Alex also drew a blank in two FA Cup clashes with Sheffield United to crash out of that competition, highlighting the need for more firepower. "We have been trying for a long time to find a forward," Davis told the club website. "We are crying out for a double-figure striker. If we had someone who can take chances then it would ease the pressure on our defence. "I am sure if we could get one or two in then it would give everyone a lift. The deadline for emergency loans is Thursday and I've made numerous phone calls to managers and agents to see if we can do something. "I will continue to do that over the next couple of days and try and conclude what we have been working on for some time. "We have had a decent record in the past when it comes to loan deals but it is always a risk. You have to try and bring the right characters in for the right reasons and some come highly recommended by their agents or their manager. "Some don't always come off. They don't adapt or tick for whatever reason, but I think we have got more right than wrong over the last few years and that is what we will try and do again."
