Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has confirmed the club are in the hunt for a new striker.
With the loan window still open, the League One side hope to have a new forward in before they host local rivals Port Vale next weekend.
"We have had further conservations with managers and agents about certain players and that has been positive and is still ongoing," Davis told the club's official website.
"He wouldn't be able to play in the FA Cup replay (against Wycombe) on Tuesday night anyway but with the Vale game coming up on the Saturday, we might try and bring someone in before then."
He is in the market for a "proven goalscorer" who is "clinical in-and-around the opposition penalty area".
