Crewe boss Steve Davis was pleased to see his faith in youth rewarded in the 1-1 draw at Oldham on Saturday.
The Alex have a fabled history of developing the next generation of talent at Gresty Road and Davis has continued that tradition during his time at the helm, fielding an entire XI made up of home-grown academy products in a win over Walsall last April.
At the weekend, not including veteran goalkeeper Steve Phillips, who made his 600th career appearance, Davis utilised an outfield team carrying an average age of 22.
"It was a young team on Saturday, one of the youngest I've ever selected so that was good," Davis told Crewe's official website.
"It is something to build on and given us a foundation. I wanted 100 per cent effort as the minimum and we got that."
