Guthrie handed new deal

Crewe defender Jon Guthrie has confirmed he has signed a new one-year contract with the League One club.

The 20-year-old has just enjoyed a breakthrough season under manager Steve Davis, making his first two senior appearances before a groin injury left him sidelined for the final two months and unable to play a part in the Alex's 2-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy triumph over Southend at Wembley. Guthrie told Crewe Alex Player: "I am delighted to sign for another year and to be given another chance. It was a bit of a nervy time for me to have the injury and I missed over two months of football. "When you are out of contract and injured, it could go either way, so I'm just pleased they have seen something in me to offer me another year and hopefully I can repay them with the performances next season."
