Millers win race for Shearer

Rotherham have managed to hold-off a host of clubs to sign highly-rated Crawley goalkeeper Scott Shearer on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old becomes the Millers' third signing of the week, following the arrival of defenders Ian Sharps and Nicky Hunt, and boss Steve Evans is delighted to have fought off stiff competition to land his man. He told the Millers' official website: "Scott has put pen to paper on a two-year deal and we have had to work extremely hard to get him. "There was some real competition for his signature, but the documentation has been completed, so it's terrific news." Shearer is well known to Evans, who managed the former Wycombe and Bristol Rovers goalkeeper while in charge of the Red Devils. Evans added: "The supporters will like him. He's 6ft 3in - a huge presence. He kicks well, his distribution is good and, with Andy Warrington, I couldn't have asked for two better goalkeepers as we look forward to coming back in July."
