Davis ponders Max factor

Steve Davis says Max Clayton's recent goal has given him a selection dilemma ahead of Crewe's weekend clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Clayton came off the bench to open the scoring as Alex brushed aside Accrington and now Davis admits the temptation to use the prodigy is growing. "There is always food for thought with Max," Davis told the club's official website. "He is developing into a decent player." "We have to remember he is still only 17, as is Nick (Powell), so we have to bide our time with him and be patient. But I know he scores goals and he showed that against Accrington." Davis has revealed that Clayton has requested to be used more frequently, but the Alex manager is cautious of throwing him in at the deep end. "He is always knocking at the door and asking if he can have a little longer in each game, but we have to move him through the system at the right pace and not throw him in to situations that are going to be difficult for him because he wants to keep his confidence high, which it certainly will be now."
