Greg Pearson barely had time for introductions before becoming an instant Crewe Alexandra hero over the weekend.
The 26-year-old joined the Railwaymen on a one-month loan deal from Burton on Friday, and met his new team-mates for the first time when he was collected from Frankley service station hours before coming off the bench to net the winning goal against Oxford at the weekend.
"I've only just joined but the lads have been fantastic with me and it's a dream start," he told BBC Radio Stoke.
Pearson struggled with a toe injury earlier this season before undertaking an unsuccessful loan spell at Aldershot, but he is hopeful his time with Alex can bring back form and fitness.
"I've been out for a while at the start of the season," he added. "I need to get playing games and get to that level of fitness.
"I've scored goals throughout my career so I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried about getting as fit as I can and playing to the best of my ability. If I do that, I think I'll get a few goals here and there."
