Crewe boss Steve Davis is hopeful David Artell's Achilles injury will not force him to miss the tie with Crawley on Saturday.
The Alex skipper has been battling the problem for a number of weeks but was able to play 90 minutes in the draw with Northampton last weekend.
Davis told the Railwaymen's official website: "Dave seems okay and is managing his Achilles accordingly. He is in the gym with (physio) Rob Sharp and is keeping himself fit through cycling and rowing. Anything that doesn't involve him putting weight on his Achilles.
"If it was a younger lad then it would be harder to manage but Dave has that experience to cope with it. I am sure he will train Thursday and Friday and declare himself available."
Davis is also hopeful Luke Murphy will return to training following his knee injury after the midfielder missed out against the Cobblers.
He added: "He had a problem with a twinge behind his knee so we didn't risk him. He hasn't trained but I expect him to be alright."
