Artell to skipper Railwaymen

Defender David Artell has been named as Crewe's permanent captain by boss Steve Davis.

Under Dario Gradi, who Davis replaced in the Gresty Road hotseat earlier this month, the armband was rotated between Artell, Lee Bell and Ashley Westwood. "I have decided to stick with David Artell as the club's captain because he is a leader and the other players look up to him and respect him," Davis told Crewe's official website. "I don't want to just rely on Dave to be the only voice but I know that in him I have someone on the pitch who has great experience and thinks like me. "You can have a captain who is quiet but leads by example or a talker who helps organise things on the pitch. Dave is a talker, but also leads by example on the pitch." Davis has enjoyed a successful start to life in charge of the Railwaymen with back-to-back League Two victories over Morecambe and Hereford.
