Crewe manager Dario Gradi was disappointed with a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Cheshire rivals Macclesfield.

Ross Draper opened the scoring in the 19th minute and the visitors hung on as the Alex hit the upright twice in the last ten minutes.

He said: "It was disappointing but not disastrous.

"The facts of the game are that they had one shot from long range that crept inside the post and we had two shots that hit the post.

"If those two shots had gone in we would be going home saying what a tremendous performance that was. We were lively and up for it and they were hanging on at the end.

"But we didn't show enough quality up front or create enough chances for all our play. All credit to Macclesfield. They worked really hard and restricted our chances but we are growing up and we didn't let them bully us."
