Crewe boss Dario Gradi views the form and fitness of Carl Martin as a major bonus this season for the League Two club.
The 24-year-old defender's career has been plagued by injuries and coming into this season, he had missed virtually every Alex game since arriving at Gresty Road.
But he appears to have put those problems behind him as he has started every League Two game so far this season.
Gradi told the Crewe Chronicle: "The fact he has come in and played as well as he has is a real bonus.
"He is still regarded as a bonus really. If he is still playing in the first team at Christmas then we can say he is no longer a bonus, he is part of the set-up."
