Gradi wants Mellor in the mix

Crewe boss Dario Gradi expects defender Kelvin Mellor to begin pushing for a starting role following his return to Gresty Road.

Mellor has been on loan at Icelandic Premier Division side IBV and is now looking to re-establish himself in Gradi's plans. Mellor played for Crewe's reserve side at Notts County at right-back, the position he adopted in Iceland, and impressed in the 1-0 win at Meadow Lane. Gradi said: "Kelvin was fine and is training well. "He played against Notts County and although he wasn't truly tested, he still did well. The main thing was that he headed almost everything in both penalty boxes. "He would certainly add that to the team."
