Gradi on hunt for young loan signing

Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi has revealed he could sign one of Arsenal's young reserve players on loan this season. The manager, who is looking to bolster his squad with two new defenders and a striker, will attend Monday evening's reserve match between the Gunners and Manchester United as he hunts for potential loan prospects. Gradi has links to Arsenal and has not ruled out raiding their academy squad. "We have a contact at Arsenal and I will watch the reserves tonight," he told Crewe's official website. "When you look to bring in a young player on loan then you usually have to put them straight in."

Options

Gradi says he has plenty of options to consider, adding: "My phone has been hectic all weekend and Neil (Baker, Crewe's chief scout) will have a dozen names to work through as well." Despite concerns over his backline, Gradi says Carl Martin could be a key player for Crewe this season if he manages to stay fit after overcoming a hamstring problem. "Carl did fine for us on Saturday and was probably the pick of the bunch of the back four," he added. "He would fit the bill for us, if he can stay fit. He hasn't shown that yet and we don't know if he is going to be able to but that would be a bonus."
