Crewe manager Dario Gradi has expressed his surprise that no clubs have snapped up striker Clayton Donaldson this summer.
Donaldson, 27, will be a free agent at the end of the week and Gradi does not expect him to kick-off the new season at Gresty Road.
The striker has been linked with the likes of Bradford City and Crawley.
Gradi told the club's official website: "I'm expecting Clayton to sign for someone else sooner rather than later, probably next week because that's when players will look to sort themselves out.
"There will be some more movement because players will start to go out of contract. Clayton's a free agent so he doesn't have to really tell us what he's going to do and all we can do is wait and see.
"I've been surprised that no one has contacted me about Clayton because he's been around for a long time and finished top scorer at our level last season."
