Crewe manager Dario Gradi admits that he failed to help Joel Grant reach his true potential at the Alexandra Stadium.

And whilst Gradi would have liked more time working with Grant, he accepts that finances played their part in his decision to join his old boss Gary Waddock at Wycombe.

Gradi told the Railwaymen's official website: "Gary knows Joel and he knows what he is getting. Good luck to Joel and I'm sure he will enjoy it there. I am pleased for him.

"He has a bundle of talent but it is just getting it out of him on a consistent basis.

"I must admit I failed on that because I don't think he got anywhere near his true potential when he was here with us.

"I would have liked to have got another go with him but resources dictated that a bit."
