New Port Vale boss Micky Adams has confirmed defender Gareth Owen will remain at Vale Park in a new role of player-coach.

While a new coaching structure will be announced in the near future, Adams has revealed Owen has signed a two-year deal. He told the club's official website: "I believe Gareth is an asset to the club and I am pleased he has agreed to stay at Port Vale in a coaching role, as well as part of the first-team squad. "Gareth will be taking the reserves for the new season and I know he is relishing the opportunity to develop his coaching expertise at Vale Park." Owen said: "I'm very excited by this new opportunity and I'm delighted to have the chance to work with the reserves after previously coaching the Under-15s. "Micky returning to the club is undoubtedly the major factor in me agreeing to stay at Vale Park and I am excited to be working with him again, both as a player and learning my trade under his guidance as a coach."
