Crewe manager Dario Gradi has promised to give striker AJ Leitch-Smith his chance to shine in the first team.
The 21-year-old has been on the fringes of the squad for much of the campaign, but has made substitute appearances in Crewe's last two games against Oxford and Accrington.
Gradi told the club's official website: "Our problem is always the same, we struggle to link the midfield players to the forwards.
"AJ is probably the likely candidate to do that and is most likely to score as well because he is the most clinical.
"Somewhere along the line he will have a go and we will see what we can do with him."
Leitch-Smith has scored five goals this season, including a late consolation goal at the Kassam Stadium in a 2-1 defeat.
