Crewe striker Calvin Zola has turned down a move to League Two rivals Shrewsbury after failing to agree personal terms.
Zola held talks with Shrewsbury on Friday and was not in the Crewe squad to face Torquay on Saturday but remains at Gresty Road - for now.
Alex boss Dario Gradi said: "Calvin hasn't gone out on loan.
"He is still here but he has said he is looking to go on loan if there is a permanent move at the end of it.
"I think he wants an increase in wages as well and Shrewsbury weren't prepared to do that.
"That's not the reason he was left out against Torquay though. I don't punish people like that."
