Crewe have been boosted by the news that midfielder Ashley Westwood has signed a new and improved one-year contract extension.
The 20-year-old, who netted six goals in 38 appearances for the Railwaymen last term, is now tied to the League Two outfit until the summer of 2013.
Westwood, who has been at the club since the age of six, has also stated his desire to remain at the club for the rest of his career.
"Dario (Gradi) told me that if I established myself in the team and became a first-team regular then he would look to up my contract again and he has stuck to his word and I'm delighted," he told the club's official website.
"Dario wants me to stay and I am more than happy to stay here.
"I would love to stay here throughout my career. That wouldn't bother me because it is an honour to play for Crewe."
