Crewe Alexandra defender Danny O'Donnell admits he is fighting to earn a new contract with the League Two club.
O'Donnell's current deal expires at the end of the season, but he has struggled to secure a regular first-team spot this term.
His appearance in last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Morecambe was just his third of the campaign and his first since Dario Gradi replaced Gudjon Thordarson as manager.
The former Liverpool youngster is now determined to keep hold of his place as he knows he is battling for his Gresty Road career.
"I know I'm playing for my future with my contract being up at the end of the season," said O'Donnell.
"Hopefully I can keep my place and have a couple of games so I can start to perform to the level I know I'm capable of.
"I've been disappointed I've not played more often after having such a positive pre-season. But it's part of being a professional footballer. You've just got to take your chance when it comes."
