Swansea defender extends loan stay until the end of the season

Swansea City defender Dennis Lawrence has extended his loan with Crewe Alexandra until the end of the season. The defender's current deal was set to expire on Tuesday but Swansea boss Roberto Martinez has allowed the Trinidad & Tobago international to stay on. Lawrence, who has over 80 caps for his country, has made 11 appearances for the Railwaymen this season and has proved to be apt cover for the injured Julien Baudet. The former Wrexham man was instrumental as Crewe took a point away at promotion chasing Millwall last Saturday keeping a clean sheet in the process. Lawrence is out of contract at the end of the season with Swansea and would be available on a free transfer if a new deal was not agreed. Crewe remain rooted to the foot of League One, seven points from safety, but a run of one defeat in four games has seen them close the gap on their relegation rivals.
