Crewe boss Dario Gradi has dismissed reports that a bid has been made for striker Luke Varney.
Varney was reported on Tuesday to be a £1million target for Premiership side Middlesbrough, who are keen to add the proven goalscorer to their squad, but Gradi insists no approach has been made.
The 24-year-old has scored 17 league goals for Alex this term and Gradi admits that he may lose his top striker in the near future.
"I've had no bids for any of my players," Gradi confirmed. "The one who is probably going to attract the most speculation is Luke Varney, because he has scored a lot of goals for us this season.
"If a sensible offer did come in for Luke and he felt he was ready for the next challenge then of course we would have to consider it. We are a selling club and need to invest in our players to make sure we can bring some money into the club to cover our costs.
"I would imagine Luke is probably the next one to move on though because he has truly arrived this season."
