Dario Gradi insists Crewe Alexandra are in no rush to sell top scorers Luke Varney and Nicky Maynard.
Both players have impressed at Gresty Road this season, with Varney scoring 25 goals, and Maynard plundering 19.
Varney has hinted at a move to a higher level in the summer, while Maynard is also tipped to eventually step up the ladder.
Gradi accepts the strikers will follow the likes of Dean Ashton in moving upwards, but he hopes to keep the pair at Crewe next season.
"We are always looking for good players, which could come and improve us," Gradi told the club's official website.
"At a club like Crewe it's also important to look at future players if our better players move on. At the moment we are looking for a potential replacement for Luke and further down the line Nicky.
"I'm sure that he and Nicky will be sought-after strikers after scoring the goals they have this season and you never know what might happen, but I'm in no rush to sell either of them.
"I want them to lead our forward line again next season. It would be nice to have them up there because they always give us a good chance of scoring goals.
"We cannot avoid the fact that we have to be a selling club and I'm sure someone like Luke will see what Rob Hulse and Dean Ashton have achieved and will want to move on at some point, but as I've said I'm in no hurry to let them go yet."
