Crewe boss Dario Gradi is not expecting to retain Steve Foster's services following relegation to League One.
Foster is out of contract in the summer and Gradi fully expects the 25-year-old defender to accept a deal elsewhere.
"I don't expect to keep Foz," said Gradi. "He has turned down contracts in the past in order to get into this situation, where he is free to look around and see what is on offer.
Although Forster has been released by The Alex, Gradi is not ruling out the possibility of retaining the stopper.
"Technically he is a free agent, because there is no point in offering him anything right now because we know he'll want to look around," he continued.
"So technically he's been released, but that doesn't mean to say we have written him off."
