Milton Keynes Dons have handed a trial to Crewe Alexandra midfielder Ben Rix.

The 22-year-old appeared in the League One club's reserves on Wednesday afternoon, as they defeated their counterparts from Leyton Orient 2-1.

The Gresty Road playmaker impressed the Buckinghamshire borough outfit with his display, as he seeks a loan move to earn a first-team opportunity this season.

Injury-plagued Rix has not played for Dario Gradi's first team since March 2003 and nearly joined another League One club in Chesterfield before an outbreak of mumps at Saltergate meant a loan move had to be called off.

With Rix away on trial, The Railwaymen have signed teenage centre back Ritchie Sutton to his first professional contract, while centre back Andrew Bond has joined non-league side Lancaster City on a season-long loan.

Meanwhile, MK Dons have lost the services of striker Izale McLeod for up to two months with a dislocated shoulder.

The former Derby County man suffered the injury late on in the club's 1-0 Carling Cup first round defeat at home to Championship side Norwich City.
