Rodgers links up with Crewe

Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers is aiming to clinch a contract with Crewe.

Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers is aiming to clinch a contract with Crewe Alexandra.

Rodgers is keen to leave Gay Meadow in search of a bigger club as his deal has expired with the League Two outfit.

The Shrews would be entitled to compensation if Rodgers finds a new team, due to the forward being aged 23.

A link to Hibernian has been played down and he is now trying to fix up a deal at Gresty Road, having been a long-term target of Crewe boss Dario Gradi.

The pacey attacker will spend pre-season with Crewe and Rodgers' agent Mark Cartwright confirmed the player's intention is to sign for The Railwaymen, despite interest from other clubs.

"Dario wants to have a good look at Luke," Cartwright told The Sentinel.

"There has been interest in the past but Crewe need to see him again and I know Luke will be giving it his all in training.

"He has a couple of other options but he genuinely does want to come and play for Crewe.

"The time is right for him to move on and he is desperate to push on with his career."
