Hibernian are considering a move for Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Gay Meadow and he already confirmed his intention to leave the Shropshire outfit.

Rodgers is being chased by a host of English clubs from Championship to League Two, with Crewe believed to be nearing the front of the queue.

However, Hibs are now understood to have made enquiries for Rodgers who they view as a potential replacement for Derek Riordan.

The Scottish international is wanted by Celtic and is expected to move to Parkhead over the summer.

The player's agent Mark Cartwright also confirmed that Rodgers could move to Scotland for free, while an English club would have to pay compensation.

"We are waiting on Hibernian, but that is dependent on whether Riordan moves on," said Cartwright.

"Under the contract rules, Luke would be classed as a free agent if he went up there as it is an international transfer."
