Crewe Alexandra have extended the loan of Everton youngster Michael Symes until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old striker has spent the past month at Gresty Road after failing to make the breakthrough at Everton.

Symes has made four appearances for The Railwaymen, scoring on his sole start against Coventry City on Bank Holiday Monday.

He is out of contract at Goodison Park in the summer and may aim to convince Dario Gradi he is worthy of a permanent deal at Crewe.

The rangy forward has three matches of the First Division season remaining to demonstrate he can perform consistently at that level.

While Gradi has prolonged Symes' stay at the club, he has yet to make a decision on Craig Hignett, who is due to return to Leicester City on Monday after two months with The Railwaymen.
