CREWE ALEXANDRA insist they have not lodged a bid for Shrewsbury Town starlet Luke Rodgers.

The Conference club claimed they rejected an offer from The Railwaymen for their prolific striker.

Rodgers scored 20 goals for The Shrews last season as the Gay Meadow outfit crashed out of The Football League.

Despite Shrewsbury's determination to hang on to the 21-year-old, several clubs have been tracking Rodgers with a view to handing him a quick return to The Football League.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has confirmed Rodgers is one of the players he admires but states he has not submitted an offer for the hot shot.

"We are always interested in good players and we have been to watch him but we watch a lot of players and no we haven't made a bid for him," Gradi told the club's official website.

"If we did, the price would have to be right because our days of paying silly money for players are well behind us."
