SHREWSBURY TOWN have rejected an offer from Crewe Alexandra for talented striker Luke Rodgers.

The Conference outfit are looking to regain their league status at the first time of asking and want to hang onto the highly-rated forward.

Crewe's offer was discussed at a board meeting last week but was unanimously rejected.

"We are an ambitious club that intends to do everything it can to get back into The Football League as quickly as possible," the board declared in a statement on the Shrewsbury Town website.

Manager Jimmy Quinn also confirmed the club's stance on keeping their young talent at Gay Meadow.

"When you have decent players and a decent team then speculation is part and parcel of the game," stated Quinn.

"Selling the likes of Luke Rodgers and any of the better players we have doesn't make sense, the players know they can play at a higher level but they also know we have a great team and it is a great opportunity this season to get back into the league."
