Millwall caretaker boss Neil Harris dismissed any talk of planning for life in League One despite his side lying eight points adrift of Championship safety following a 0-0 home draw against Brighton.

The Lions tore out of the blocks as they searched for a first win at the Den since late October, going close on several occasions.

But the visitors had lost only two of their previous eight fixtures before kick-off, and they turned the tide in the second half, Joe Bennett's free-kick effort slamming off the crossbar.

Harris said: "You can't accept relegation, we as a club can't settle for that, and I certainly won't allow the players to do that.

"Yes we are in a difficult position - the league table doesn't lie, we are in a tough place - but we have got games to win, performances to give, contracts to be earned by players, and a fan base that are demanding we keep going.

"We have to start somewhere, and being on top for long periods today as well as being the better team in the second half on Saturday is a good start for us.

"We are just searching for that first goal to really kick-start us."

That goal looked like it may come early on in the match, with a dangerous Shaun Williams corner causing chaos in the Brighton box before Aiden O'Brien created a couple of good chances.

But Harris' men lost that momentum in the second half, with Leon Best heading just wide and Bennett's curling free-kick striking the woodwork as the Seagulls searched for just their second away goal since January.

And manager Chris Hughton admitted that the congested schedule of Championship fixtures in recent weeks has not helped his side's poor form in front of goal on their travels.

He said: "It is a manager's job to find the way to solve these problems.

"I thought that two up top would give us more of a platform to get the goals we needed, but part of the problem is that you don't get an opportunity to work on the training ground because you are playing at the weekend and then midweek.

"So you probably don't get the volume of time on the training ground that you'd like, but you just have to keep looking for the right formula, and we didn't find it today - but that doesn't mean we won't find it on another day.

"On the balance of performance today I think the draw was a fair one. We have certainly played better than that in the past, so I can't honestly say it's a performance that deserved to get us the win."
