Chris Powell admitted he was relieved to secure his first win as Huddersfield boss as two goals from Nahki Wells guided Town to a 2-1 Sky Bet Championship victory over Millwall.
Wells scored either side of Edward Upson's strike to give the Terriers their first victory in 11 league games at John Smith's Stadium and Powell's first since taking over from Mark Robins.
"That's a relief," Powell said. "It's been a while. The win was a long time coming, not really for me, but for the club and the fans.
"It was well-earned in the end but when you're a manager and come to a new club you want a positive result as soon as possible."
Wells scored either side of half-time to make it six goals for the season. But it was the arrival on loan of Wigan striker Grant Holt that gives Powell hope for the future.
He said: "It was no secret that I was looking to bolster the striking options and I thought Grant, with the experience he has, is the one we wanted.
"Everyone can see he is a handful and it's good for Nahki as he likes to play with someone.
"I am really pleased to get Grant as he has scored goals at all levels. He only signed on Saturday morning, met the players at the training ground and got on with it.
"He brings stature and know how and could be a cult hero for the short time he will be here."
Wells put Huddersfield ahead in the 37th minute when Joel Lynch's long ball forward was taken down and laid off to him by Harry Bunn. Wells hit the shot on the half-volley giving keeper David Forde no chance.
The lead only lasted four minutes as Ed Upson produced an equally good first time strike from the edge of the box from Scott McDonald's cross.
Wells won it from the penalty spot in the 57th minute when the lively Bunn broke into the box and was brought down by Nicky Bailey.
Millwall boss Ian Holloway was scathing about his team - and the game as a whole.
He said: "Unfortunately I had a passing team out that couldn't pass it.
"I just want to forget that game. It was terrible. The atmosphere was really flat - I have never known it so flat at this club - and we got caught up in that.
"I cannot think of any one of my players who had a half-decent game."
Asked if he would make changes ahead of Tuesday's game against Birmingham, he replied: "Christ. Do you think anybody is safe after that?"
Holloway admitted Powell had caught him cold with a three-at-the-back formation, adding: "He threw me a curve ball. Still this is the Championship and that's what happens. It was a strange day and I have lost."
