Wood has played an integral part in the Lions' current excellent run of form that has seen them suffer just one defeat in their last 15 matches.
The New Zealand international has been in fine form since making his temporary move from the Hawthorns in September and the south Londoners are expected to face competition for his signature from Leicester.
But Jackett is still hopeful of signing Wood, who is valued at more than £1m by the Baggies, which would mean the Lions would have to break the club record transfer fee of £800,000 they paid Derby for Paul Goddard in 1989.
"We like Chris - he has done very well for us," said Jackett. "I think he has had two very good experienced partners alongside him in Darius Henderson and Andy Keogh.
"But he is a player we would definitely like to pursue once his loan expires.
"Would that be a permanent deal? Yes. We will have to see what January brings, but it is no secret that we like Chris and we would like to keep him here."
