Nigel Clough says talks are ongoing for Stephen Bywater to stay at Sheff Wed and will discuss Stephen Pearson's situation at Bristol City.

Rams boss to also discuss Pearson's future later this month

Derby County manager Nigel Clough has confirmed talks are ongoing for Stephen Bywater to stay at Sheffield Wednesday and will discuss Stephen Pearson's situation at Bristol City later this month. Bywater is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and the goalkeeper has impressed during his time with the League One club. Owls boss Gary Megson wants to sign Bywater on a permanent basis and Clough appears prepared to let the keeper stay at Hillsborough if a deal can be agreed. "That is the feedback we are getting from Sheffield Wednesday and talks are ongoing about trying to do something," said Clough in the Derby Evening Telegraph. Scotland midfielder Pearson is another Ram who is currently out on loan and he is with Championship strugglers Bristol City. His loan at Ashton Gate expires early in the New Year and Clough discussed the matter with his Robins counterpart Derek McInnes after Derby's 2-1 win over City last weekend. Clough added: "We had a brief chat with Derek after the game on Saturday but Stephen's loan is up on January 3 and so we will be revisiting that one probably in the last week in December."
