The striker has struggled for starting time under Sven Goran Eriksson and has been kept out of the side of late by January loan signing Yakubu.

Derby County wanted to sign the 21-year-old on loan in the transfer window, but Eriksson put a block on the switch to the Foxes' Championship rival.

Waghorn reminded Eriksson of his ability with a last-gasp winner against Bristol City on Friday night and the former Sunderland youngster wants to play his part in Leicester's push for promotion.

"I am buzzing because it has been a long time coming," said Waghorn in the Leicester Mercury.

"I have been waiting for my chance because there have been a few frustrating months, but the lads have been playing great and I am glad I can help them in the push for promotion.

"The Derby thing is all in the past now. I am happy to be at Leicester and I want to fight for my place.

"If it means sitting on the bench and coming on and doing what I have been doing then I will be more than happy.

"It has been frustrating, but life goes on and I want to get into the Premiership.

"Maybe I will have to be content with being a substitute because Yakubu is in front of me and he is different class. But I still think I can make a contribution."
