Charlton boss Phil Parkinson has rubbished claims skipper Nicky Bailey is set to leave the club.
The midfielder grabbed the winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Wycombe on Saturday and is a reported target for a number of Championship teams.
However, Parkinson has reassured fans that Bailey is more likely to become a Championship player next season with the Addicks.
"Nicky's not going anywhere," Parkinson told the club's
official website.
"What message would that send to our supporters? Nick's our captain and what a great achievement it would be if Nicky Bailey led this club back into the Championship."
The 25-year-old has nine League One goals to his name this term, with a Johnstones Paint Trophy strike taking him into double figures for the season.
"Players like that are really difficult to find," Parkinson added. "It's not just that, though, it's his all-round game."
Charlton trail leaders Leeds, who lost 2-0 to Exeter on Saturday, by six points after narrowing the gap at the weekend and is convinced they are one of three teams who are lying in wait for further slip ups by the title favourites.
"They [Leeds] will be looking over their shoulders," said Parkinson. "I know ourselves, Norwich, Colchester and all the other teams don't want to make it easy for them.
"If they do get promoted, then we want to make sure we push them all the way. That's our job to do that. I know ourselves and Norwich have won - and the chase goes on."
