Winger keen to win contract at former club

Former Millwall winger Adrian Forbes is hoping to earn a return to League Two side Grimsby Town this summer. The 30-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Mariners last season, helping them avoid relegation in the process, and he has told skysports.com that a chance to return there would be his preferred destination. "I was only there for three months, but the three months that I was there was very enjoyable and I got on with everyone," said Forbes. "The lads made me feel very welcome and the fans took to me well too and appreciated what I brought to the side, so that would be my preferred choice if they were to come in for me. "It would probably be my first choice, but I'm old enough to realise that you can't take anything for granted until the contract offer is in front of you." Forbes also worked with Mariners boss Mike Newell at Luton Town and he identified the former Blackburn striker as a major factor if he was to link-up with him once again at Blundell Park. "Mike Newell would definitely be a major factor in me joining Grimsby and he was one of the main reasons that I initially joined on loan because I knew he had the ability and the nous to get the club out of the predicament they were in. "He brought in some quality players that helped the club stay up, like Barry Conlon, Peter Sweeney and Wayne Henderson. "I was with him at Luton and that was a very successful time for us both, so if he brings in the same quality of players over the summer, hopefully including me, then this club could have the same type of success which Mike had at Luton."
