Berry Powel seems set to return to his native Netherlands after being freed from his contract by Millwall.

The Lions signed the Dutchman in January, having been impressed with his free-scoring efforts for Den Bosch.

His Millwall career started brightly, as he netted on his debut, but he failed to secure regular playing time and could not help the club avoid relegation.

With The Lions slipping out of The Championship, they are looking to cut their cloth and Powell has been allowed to leave on a free transfer.

"I spoke to Berry and outlined my plans to bring new faces into the squad and told him that I couldn't guarantee he would be one of my first choice strikers," new Millwall boss Nigel Spackman revealed.

"He indicated, therefore, that his desire was to have his contract cancelled, and we have acceded to his wishes."

Powell is likely to return to his native land and he is sure to have a number of clubs on his tail.
