Millwall have confirmed that defender Darren Ward could be leaving the club.

An unnamed Premiership club are believed to have entered the chase for Ward, which already involves Norwich and West Ham.

The likes of West Brom and Crystal Palace are also being strongly linked to make a move.

Chairman Jeff Burnige has confirmed Ward could well be following Paul Ifill - who moved to Sheffield United last week - out of the club.

"Obviously I did not become chairman to preside over the sale of our best players, and if this transfer does materialise, the supporters will read a proper explanation of the circumstances in which it came about," said Burnige.

"Personally, I hope that, if he does decide to leave, it is for a Premiership club because he deserves the chance to play at the highest level. The board will, in any case, insist on a substantial fee."
