Coppinger: Doncaster can go up

James Coppinger is hoping Doncaster have the right blend of youth and experience to shine in League One this season.

Rovers were relegated from the Championship in heartbreaking fashion when finishing below Birmingham on goal difference after losing 1-0 at Leicester to a David Nugent penalty on the final day of the season. However, Paul Dickov has freshened up the squad with a number of new faces and Coppinger is backing the younger players to come through this term. The 33-year-old veteran of over 400 Doncaster games told the club's official website: "We've got a young back four and it's a massive opportunity for a lot of young lads and it's about stepping up to the plate and carving a career, so they're looking forward to that and progressing. "The senior pros like me and Rob (Jones) are trying to bring the young lads on and have a successful season. I think as a young lad you have a fear of failure and letting people down, so it's about staying positive and changing your mindset. "You have nothing to lose, you've got a fantastic opportunity at a fantastic club, with good people around you and it's about using them and asking questions to understand how you're going to improve as a player." Rovers, who topped the League One table ahead of Bournemouth two seasons ago to go up as champions, start out with a trip to Yeovil this weekend. "We want to be successful and win the league like everyone in the division; there's no reason we can't," added Coppinger. "We've got some fantastic players in the squad, and although it's a smaller squad, we had a smaller squad when we won the league, so we know what we're capable of and what has to be done."
