Tyson targets Magpies survival

On-loan striker Nathan Tyson believes avoiding relegation with Notts County would be as satisfying as helping a club gain promotion.

The 31-year-old joined County from Blackpool on an initial one-month loan on Monday and has been tasked with firing the basement side towards League One safety. The Magpies sit five points adrift of Bristol City in 20th ahead of Saturday's home clash with promotion-chasing Leyton Orient, a match which should see Tyson make his debut. "It must be hard seeing all the teams in the east midlands doing quite well but if we can get out of this sticky patch it will be just as good as promotion in my eyes," the former Nottingham Forest and Derby forward told Magpie Player. "It spurs me on because it's a fantastic challenge and although the team are rock bottom, we're not a million miles away from it (safety). "There's only a few points in it and it's a great opportunity for players that have not done too well to work hard. "I'm itching to get going and I'm really looking forward to it. "When I heard about this last week there was a big smile on my face. It's great news and to come here and play football is a great opportunity for myself."
