Ryan backs Rovers to impress

Doncaster chairman John Ryan thinks his club could spring a surprise in the Championship next season.

Rovers claimed the League One title on a dramatic final-day win at Brentford last term, securing a return to the second tier after just a year away. Boss Brian Flynn stepped down following that success and his successor Paul Dickov was installed on Monday. And Ryan believes Rovers can prosper in the second tier under the guidance of the former Oldham manager. "I think we will do incredibly well next season. We will surprise a few people," he said. "We've got some great players here and they will only get better because they are playing in the Championship and have the opportunity to improve. "I have not set any targets, all I have said is that we are going to have a very good season and we'll see."
