Huddersfield unable to recall defender from loan spell at Deepdale

Preston North End have confirmed Huddersfield Town defender Jamie McCombe will now be staying at Deepdale until early January. Huddersfield had requested on Thursday for McCombe to return from his loan spell at Preston, but there was no recall clause in the original deal. McCombe is now available to play in the Lilywhites' next three League One fixtures before he heads back to the Galpharm Stadium. Terriers chief executive Nigel Clibbens told the club's official website: "I spoke to Preston first thing this morning and in the absence of a call-back clause in our favour, I was told a mutual termination was not then possible from Preston's viewpoint. "It is an unfortunate circumstance, but we can do nothing about it now. We look forward to Jamie's return in the New Year." The 28-year-old has made five appearances for Preston since joining last month and is set to start the Boxing Day game against Carlisle United.
