Rovers striker refuses to rule out Portman Road switch

Billy Sharp admits Ipswich would be a 'fantastic' club to play for, but insists he will continue to give his all for Doncaster until told otherwise. The Rovers striker was on target for his current employers on Saturday as they picked up a 3-2 victory at Portman Road. The home supporters paid a touching tribute to the 25-year-old when he found the target and when he was substituted - with the forward still coming to terms with the loss of his newborn baby. Calls of 'sign him up' could be heard on the terraces and Sharp has refused to rule out making such a move in the future. Ipswich boss Paul Jewell was keen to do a deal over the summer and that interest could be reignited when the January transfer window opens for business. "I had a lump in my throat when the Ipswich fans did that for me, they didn't have to do that to an opposing player and I would like to thank them all for showing that respect for me," Sharp said in the Green'Un.

"There was interest in the summer and both clubs spoke. It is a great club but it just wasn't the right club for me at that point. "But it wasn't because of this club (Ipswich). It is a great club and it would be a fantastic one to play for." Doncaster boss Dean Saunders has admitted that he may have to sell Sharp if a 'ridiculous' offer arrives, but for now the striker insists he remains fully focused on his duties at the Keepmoat Stadium. He added: "I am a Doncaster Rovers player and like I have said before, whatever shirt I put on I will always do my best. "I have a year-and-a-half left on my contract here and I will continue to give 110 per cent for this club until someone tells me otherwise."
