Royals win at Foxes as Allardyce and Hughton enjoy success

Reading toppled promotion favourites Leicester City as Sam Allardyce and Chris Hughton enjoyed first Championship wins in charge of West Ham United and Birmingham City respectively. Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton continued their impressive starts on the back of last season's promotion, while there were three red cards as Middlesbrough beat Leeds United. Noel Hunt and Hal Robson-Kanu scored second-half goals as last season's beaten play-off finalists Reading enjoyed an impressive 2-0 victory away to ambitious Leicester. Allardyce enjoyed his first victory as West Ham United manager as Kevin Nolan's fifth minute goal secured a 1-0 success at Doncaster Rovers. Hughton emulated Allardyce in gaining his first league win in charge of a relegated club as Keith Fahey's 73rd minute goal helped Birmingham to see off Coventry City 1-0 at St Andrew's. Steve McClaren is still awaiting his first league win in charge of Nottingham Forest after goals from Darius Henderson and Liam Trotter gave Millwall a 2-0 home success. Southampton are enjoying life back in the second tier after David Connolly's goal on the half-hour mark secured a 1-0 win at Barnsley, who could not capitalise on playing the last few minutes after 10 men after the visitors' substitute Richard Chaplow was sent off. Craig Mackail-Smith repaid some of Brighton & Hove Albion's summer investment with the only goal at Portsmouth, who missed a last-minute penalty at Fratton Park. Marvin Emnes' goal midway through the second half earned Middlesbrough a 1-0 win at Leeds United, but that did not tell half the story as three players were sent off. Leeds had Max Gradel and captain Jonny Howson dismissed either side of a red card for Boro's Tony McMahon. Ipswich Town lost their position as fledgling leaders of the table after Matty Fryatt's 76th minute goal handed Hull City a 1-0 win at Portman Road. Derby County made it two wins from two at the start of the Championship season as Steve Davies' 51st minute goal clinched a 1-0 triumph at Watford. Crystal Palace picked up their first points of the season after goals from Jonathan Parr and an Owen Garvan penalty wrapped up a 2-0 home win over Burnley, who had Marvin Bartley sent off late on.
